This past October 5th, 6th, and 7th
marked the third annual Cherokee County Farm/City Days. This event is aimed at teaching elementary children the importance
of agriculture and the impact it still has on our everyday lives. The original idea for this event was founded by Dewandee
Neyman, a Centre Elementary school teacher. In its first year, the program won first place at the state level, and last year's
event won Best Farm-City Tour and Best Farm-City Committee. The program even recieved a National Farm-City award.
For the past few years, the event has
been held at Sand Rock School under the direction of Yvonne Jacoway and Barry Bailey, along with the help of several
high school teachers and students.

During a two and a half hour session, students and parents a like walk from station
to station viewing different exhibits. Such stations range in topics from how cotton is transformed to clothes, popcorn and
storytime, viewing and petting different farm animals, an outdoor forestry class room, to even a barrel racing demonstration.

As the morning session comes to a close, the student are herded back together and
everyone eats lunch while being entertained by the Sand Rock High School FFA string band.
